What is Preschool Boost?

Preschool Boost is a South Australian Government funding program that helps Flying Start partner services do more to address developmental vulnerability.

Every Flying Start partner service receives a Preschool Boost allocation. Services choose how to spend it from a menu of evidence informed programs and supports, and set that out in their Preschool Boost Plan.

Day by Day sits on that menu under two separate listings, one for speech pathology and one for occupational therapy. Both are listed under the support category educator upskilling.

Your day already has the opportunities in it

Educators are stretched. So we start with the routine you already have, and find the moments where a small change does the most work.

How we work with your team

Coaching can happen in the room, alongside educators, during the actual day. Or we can come at a time that suits you to interview and coach your team through their days, including group sessions where your room staff workshop the tricky parts together.

1. We watch the day
A clinician spends time in your rooms observing real routines, transitions and group dynamics. We are looking for friction points and for what is already working well.

2. We talk with your educators
Each educator brings different strengths and different concerns. We ask them what is hard, what they have already tried, and what they want to feel more confident about.

3. We workshop the hard parts together
Your room staff come together away from the floor to work through the moments they find hardest, and how to embed therapeutic strategies into the routines they already run.

4. We coach in the moment
Side by side modelling during the routine itself, with feedback that is specific and immediate. Educators practise with our support before we step back.

5. We leave something usable
A short, plain language plan the room can actually run, plus any visuals or resources it needs. No folder of theory that nobody opens.

6. We come back and review
We check what stuck, adjust what did not, and build on it. Change in a busy room takes more than one visit.

7. We report on outcomes
Clear documentation you can use in your Preschool Boost reporting and your quality improvement work.

Bringing your whole team together

Not all of the work has to happen on the floor. We can also bring your room staff together, away from the children, to workshop the day as a group.

These sessions are practical rather than theoretical. Your team names the tricky moments, the transition that always unravels, the mealtime that stretches out for forty minutes, the pack up that ends in tears, and we work through them together. What is actually going on, why it is hard, and what to try on Monday.

The other half of the session is about embedding therapeutic strategies into everyday moments, so they live inside the routines your educators already run rather than becoming another thing to fit in. When a whole room works through this together, everyone leaves with the same strategies and the same language, which is what makes them hold up on a busy day or when a relief educator steps in.

We can run these during staff meetings, planning time or a professional development day, whichever fits your roster.
